Adjacent to the Slaty Creek Calder Freeway underpass, the site provides a small but important corridor for species between the Macedon Regional Park to the east, and the Lerderderg State Park to the west.

Acquired by Cassinia in 2012, the site is now protected in perpetuity by a conservation covenant. Being located close to the Macedon Plantation, this is significant for the preservation of local biodiversity in what may have become a contested space.

The site is located in Black Forest and is mostly covered by dense Lowland forest and Riparian Woodland. Native grasses, ferns, and orchids populate the forest floor beneath a dense canopy of tall Eucalypts. The trickling Slaty Creek runs through the heart of the property, offering a water source for many species, and a home for Platypuses - which have been sighted there on multiple occasions.
